Forum: GratefulDead Subject: 4-10 & 11-1978 Fox Theatre - April 78 in focus

1978 is an enigma year for the GD. Two albums of new material incorporated, steady touring, a trip to Egypt and some fantastic shows that followed...the year ends with a bang with the epic closing of the Winterland show...the playing through the year reveals set lists of heavy repeat tedium, the music ranged from tepid and uninspired to full thrust rock and dynamic jamming, often in the same show...however many gems lay awaiting discovery in the 1978 archives...

April 1978 has a bunch of great music...this two night Fox Theatre stand is chock loaded...see also 4-12, 4-15 (huge NFA, only Dew of 78), 4-16 (one of the best sounding betty boards around), 4-21, 4-22 and 4-24...while not exactly talking May 77 here, some of the best "hall of fame" versions of tunes exist during this month (i.e. Franklin's Tower 4-10, Passenger 4-10, Row Jimmy 4-12, S>F 4-16, Wharf Rat 4-22, MNS 04-24...)

speaking of April '78, you might have noted that C. Miller recently circulated an upgrade to 4/12, i haven't listened to it yet, but it is a show from that year which i enjoy much, and so i'm definitely interested in checking it out; great month for GD music for sure

and for audience lovers, circulated just a couple of months ago:
